100th Post!

Nothing too exciting. I couldn't really come up with anything extravagant. Oh well. I do have a few exciting things, though!

A of all, I won the basketball pool at work... and won myself $200! All for saying "Hmm... eeny, meeny, miny. THAT ONE!" I did actually put SOME thought into it. I did look up SOME stats and did pay SOME attention to college basketball. Not much. I did go a lot on seeding. I didn't take "the chalk" the whole way through (I didn't know what that meant until like yesterday. I didn't pick all 1 seeds). And all those people who laughed at me because I took Villanova in the final four can suck it.

B of all, I've decided to start doing yoga on a regular basis. I am attempting to be healthier. At my work, we have this "life coach" who comes in a few times a month and gives us tips to lead healthy lives and all that stuff. Last month, she checked our back health. We had to do all these stretches and things to see if we were at an increased risk of back injury. We discovered that I have bad hips (which I knew... I almost had to have hip surgery when I was 15 because of my non-working soas muscle), and we discovered that I'm pear shaped, and we discovered that I'm in the 10th percentile of hamstring flexibility for my age group. Which means that 90% more people are more flexible than I. And I also have ZERO lumbar support. At ULTA on Sunday, my back was hurting so badly I could barely stand up. So I think it's time for yoga. When I was seeing a chiropractor, she told me that all of my back pain was because I had weak back muscles, not from my spine. She suggested a year ago that I start doing yoga.

I went to three stores before I found exercise dvds, let alone yoga ones. Jeezu. Who knew that Best Buy didn't believe in exercise? They USED to have a section. Not any longer! I was forced (against my better judgement) to go to Barnes and Noble. I hate that store. Even though they carry "Sock Innovation" by Cookie A and Borders doesn't.

And finally, C of all, I'm getting laser hair removal. I don't know how much I'll talk about it here... but I'll at least let y'all know. I'm meeting with the people today for my "consultation" and we're going to get started on my underarms. I'm excited and a bit scared at the same time. I know it is going to hurt a bit. I had a friend who had it done on her legs 5 years ago, loves it, and she said that it does hurt. I also have a friend at ULTA who used to work for a laser hair removal company (not the same one I'm going to) and she told me that I'm going to love it, that it'll work great on me since I have such dark hair, and she told me all the places I should have treated. If I never have to shave again.... I'm going to be so excited. I hate the act of shaving, and waxing hurts more than it should.

I had a bikini wax ONCE. I was going to get a brazillian wax. Then they started, and I chickened out. I liked the result of the wax. But NEVER AGAIN will I get a bikini wax. I wanted to cry. And before going to the waxing hell, I went to the bar and took ibuprofen. So I should have been just fine. At least afterwards, I did a facial. That was my reward for sitting through such horrid and unneccesary pain. I think if I can live through a bikini wax... than I can live through laser hair removal. I hope.

Sometimes...a little research is needed.

In my line of work (listing events for non profit organizations-NPO), I often get bribed. At Halloweentime, a local animal rights NPO tried to bribe me with a sparkly spider ring, Halloween candy, and a giant plastic Halloween tumbler with sparkly bats and pumpkins on it. I wore the sparkly spider ring for a week. The funny this was that I already had our event listed.

Yesterday, some intern dropped off paperwork for a 5k run/walk that benefits local high schools and such. Another event I already have listed. And this intern also did not disappoint in her bribery. I got a bag full of about a half dozen apples.

I'm allergic to fresh fruit. My throat closes... I stop breathing... it's a lot of fun. I recommend trying it.

It might be prudent to do a bit of research before dropping off goodies for bribery purposes. My fruit allergy was actually triggered by an apple (a gala apple to be exact) and I find it a little ironic. There's also a client that we deal with who often sends us goodies like giant boxes of chocolates... or these awesome brownies and cookes from this company whose name I can never remember... and edible arrangements. Not only am I allergic to fruit, but so is the account executive for this particular client.

Sidenote... my 100th post is coming up. I should probably do something fun and exciting, right? Like what?

The Magical Radio Faerie

Yes, I spell "fairy" like "faerie."

One of my responsibilities at the station is to write, produce, and put in commercials. Oftentimes, they will come fully produced from an outside production company. The email correspondance that I had between myself and one of our clients was hilarious.

Client (on Wednesday): We should have the spot to you by Thursday. We had some production issues, but it should be fine tomorrow.

Client (on Thursday): Sorry, we're still waiting for the spot to be reproduced again. Is it all right if it is slightly over :60?
Me: No. It really needs to be right at :60 because our station is set up for :30 and :60 only. If we get a spot that is :65, it will get cut off.

Client (on Friday at 4:35): Here's the spot! Sorry for the delay!

I'm relieved, because it's late on a Friday, and I already have to stay later than usual because I'm having someone come in to record a commericial at 5:00. I upload the commercial to our program, I'm about to label it, when I notice something that I am convinced is wrong. There's no way that it says that.

There's no way that this commercial that I told this woman cannot be over :60 under any circumstances is 2:06.

It is. It's TWO MINUTES AND SIX SECONDS LONG. And I listen to it... and it's horribly produced!! I call the account executive and I'm panicking because it needs to run this weekend. And he says "Well, just cut it." JUST CUT IT? It's a FULLY PRODUCED SPOT. I can't JUST CUT IT. But I manage to do it. I'm not sure exactly how, but I manage to cut a 2:06 spot down to :59.

I don't know why these people think that I can perform miracles. They really must believe in the existance of the Production Faerie. The Production Faerie comes down and makes everything they want possible.

The Joys of Homeownership

Gene and I have this Home Warranty...which so far has been WONDERFUL. Shortly after we moved into the house, we were seeing water damage under the tub. Luckily, it wasn't anything serious at all... just a bit of caulk that was loose. But the plumber snaked our drain for us since he was out there already, which normally would have cost $300+ but instead only cost us $55. So when we started having strange water-heater issues, we're thinking "Oh good... if our water heater goes, we can just get a new one for $55."

The same company that snaked our drain came out to look at the water heater. I took a half work-from-home day and worked on some PSA stuff at home so I wouldn't lose the day. And I got to listen to my friend who's on a soap opera while doing my job, so that's always fun. The plumber, whose name I think was Chad, came up from my basement with a very pained look on his face. And he tells me that I need a new water heater, but it's because of a calcification, which is not covered under the warranty. So I need to shell out $1000 for a new water heater (that includes installation) Luckily... I have that much saved, so I don't have to take this out of pocket. Unfortunately...that's all I have in my savings, so...

The only good part of yesterday, and really what made everything all right, was that I could lick the World Series Trophy. The station I work for was sponsoring an appearance of the World Series Trophy, so Gene and I headed over the the mall to see the trophy. We ended up going into the restaurant that the station was having dinner at beforehand, and we didn't have to wait in line to get our picture taken at all! We showed up just in time... in 2 minutes they were taking the trophy to the center court of the mall where there was a line almost the length of the mall. There were easily 1000 people in line. Sometimes, working in radio has its perks.

Here's the trophy in all it's glory:
