Funny how things change...

This weekend (and by weekend, I mean Monday.. but I was on vacation, so it was still my weekend) I got to reconnect with someone I've been friends with for over ten years (and when we figured that out... we simultaneously groaned OH MY GOD WE'RE SO OLD). She always moves far away. She went to undergrad in Florida... and grad school in D.C. where she's been living for the past few years, and while D.C. is much closer than Florida (to me anyway) we still don't see each other quite as often as we'd like.

But getting together with her really made me realize how much I missed her. It's also made me realize how much we've both changed. We used to have this routine in the summers. Go swimming in her pool, go to the mall, eat at Friendly's, go to VS and absolutely buy the 5 for $25 underwear, then go back into pool, turn on hot tub, watch silly movies. Yesterday, however, we went into the pool (and now I'm SO sunburnt), went to the mall... realized Friendly's no longer exists (the horror!), got ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery instead, went to VS... and hated everything in there, and then we parted ways. I had to get home to make dinner. It was so funny because we're still the same basic people, and our friendship still works, but we've definitely changed.

When we drove to the mall, we took the long way (to avoid tolls... I didn't have easy pass with me) and went by this road that we used to go on in high school. The road is supposedly haunted, and there's supposed to be this coven that does all kinds of weird stuff. Now... I studied Wicca for a while (found it fascinating) and I also read Tarot, and this "haunted road" was just a road. But that didn't mean that it didn't scare the bejesus out of me. And when we crossed over it... it just brought me right back to all of the stupid shit I did in high school. The one night we did go there... we did get run off of the road and someone followed us for about 2 miles until we turn onto a different road, hence the terrified part.

The whole day just had me really missing those friendships that I had in high school. Out of all of the people I was close to, I only talk to two people. The friend I hung out with, and my best friend that I've known since I was 6. That's it. All of these friendships that I thought I'd have forever... gone. And I know that I'm better off... all of the friendships I have now are really strong. They're the people I'd call if I needed to hide the body, you know? The other people would say they'd help me, but call the police so that when I went to pick my friend up, the cops would be waiting. But that still doesn't mean that I don't sometimes miss those people... and wish that they could have been better friends.

Also, unrelated, I've almost finished watching season 1 of True Blood... DAMN that show is good. And for my lunch today, I'm going to Borders and I'm going to buy the first book. I do love me some vampires. No vampire can come close in my book to Edward Cullen, but Sookie seems way more interesting than whiny Bella Swan. Maybe if Sookie and Edward got together...that would be awesome.

The End of the Wedding Crazy. For now.

I'm been a little MIA lately... partly because of the wedding crazy and partly because work has been a bit of a nightmare. and the combination of the both makes me want to drink tequila out of the bottle.

The final wedding in the wedding crazy went surprisingly great! I KNEW that Gene was going to have to escort the girl my ex cheated on me with...and I was right. I also knew that my ex was going to be there with his girlfriend whom I adore. That was mostly fine. Only slightly awkward. The worst part of the whole night was the fake "Oh, how are you? You look great.. blah blah blah" that I got from the ex's friends who never liked me when we dated, which was fine because I didn't like them either.

The dress went well, I think. I did one BIG mistake though that no one noticed. I was clipping the seams on the inside of the dress so that it would lay nicer on the midriff, and I accidentally snipped a tiny little V into the skirt part of the dress. I had no idea what to do.. so I didn't do anything. I can't glue it together.... I'm still trying to figure out what to do... but I know that no one noticed (or at least Gene, and he notices everything--because he would have said "what did you do there?" and point it out, which is great because he's generally honest about my clothing)

The wedding actually looked pretty small. It was outdoors (hence my fluffy hair... it was straight. and then humidity happened. That picture was after the wedding back at the hotel. You can't even tell that I'm BLASTED!) and in my friend's backyard. Of one of their houses. I think they have three? That I know of? Her parents have a freakish amount of money. As in what they spent on photography for the night (3 photogs and 2 videographers) is about what a lot of people spend on the entire wedding. But they could save money on the venue. They instead spent it on food (yum), pictures, an ice sculpture of a monkey with a Shakespearean collar (for serious) and apparently booze. The open bar was the whole night... and they had good vodka. and they made my cosmos with cointreau instead of triple sec. Oh yeah.

But that brings me to my fear and aversion to having a wedding. I just think it's so STUPID to spend this much money on one day. Yes, I realize that it's a "once in a lifetime" thing... but my problem with weddings is that by the end of it, it's rarely about the bride and groom. It's about what everyone else wants. If I told my father that I wanted a barbeque with chicken, ribs, and potato chips, he'd want me to have lobster thermador and asparagus wrapped with prosciutto. I've said before that we want to go to Hawaii and come back married. And this plan has been adapted a few times. For a while, we decided that Vegas would be cool. This has apparently been revised yet again (at 2am last night, no less) to the Caribbean. As in St. Thomas or something similar. It would have to be one of the US islands... the flight would be much shorter, and therefore less expensive, and more people would probably be able to afford it if they so choose. And maybe we'll have some kind of family gathering before or after (super super informal. Cannot stress how informal. I mean like family reunion informal) to say "hey, we're getting married isn't that great."

I know that my mother supports me. She isn't the one I worry about. Daddy dearest has issues because he wants to put on this air that we're all rolling in money. But he isn't paying for my wedding, I am. And I work in radio. Unless you own a station, you make ZERO money in radio. And Gene's parents just want us to get married in a church, which we don't really give a shit about. We were bascially Baptized Catholic and that's it. I go to church on Christmas Eve, and even then it's iffy if I actually go.

Jesus loves my boobs.

Week one of the wedding crazy was a heck of a lot of fun. Wedding #1 was, well, interesting. Outdoor wedding.. we got rained on. The grooms family was, um, loud and outspoken at inappropriate times. Like during the first dance. But the bride and groom looked wonderful, and they had a good time, and that's what counts. And it isn't a wedding without some kind of family drama anyway!

Wedding #2 (my friend's wedding) was absolutely wonderful. Every girl sobbed like a baby during the ceremony. My friend's father passed away from brain cancer about six? years ago, so it was bittersweet. But I lightened up the ceremony by dropping the Eucharist down my dress, so it's all good. I think it took all of the willpower of the bride to not cackle with laughter from the front of the Church.

At the reception, my friend danced a tribute to her deceased father with her brother to an aria from an Opera that she prerecorded. It was an aria that her father (who was an Opera singer) always wanted to hear her perform. Again.. much crying. I'm amazed that my mascara wasn't all over my lips by the end of the night. And that my friends is why I only wear Smashbox mascara. Also... I had FIVE (yeah. five.) cosmopolitans... and I wasn't drunk. I have no idea how that happened. And one of my friends (who is a bit of a lush) had a sip of it after I told her that it was my fifth one and said "Jesus! That is really strong!! How is this your fifth and you're still standing! You're doing really good."

This wedding made me really miss my college friends. They all live in New York City, and I rarely get to see them... but damn do we know how to have a good time!! My legs hurt really bad now from all the dancing. I even got Gene to dance! (well, I convinced the mother of the bride to guilt him into dancing with me... worked like a charm!)

And I really know how to get the party started... one of my friends who is, um, energetic and very expressive in his dancing accidentally PUNCHED ME IN THE FACE. Luckily no black eye. I kicked him in the balls later in the evening. And again, weddings wouldn't be weddings without the drama... one of my friends left in the middle of the reception for no good reason... just disappeared, and another one of my friends broke her dress while doing air guitar.

One really good thing came out of the evening though. I finally decided which song to use for my audition next Monday. The bride and groom's first show together (theatre people ALWAYS have a blast... they did a little skit coming in to introduce the bride and groom to musical songs rather than the music for the starting lineup of the 1996 Chicago Bulls) was Crazy For You, which was the show we did our senior year. And the one song I was thinking of performing is "But Not For Me" which is also from that show. During the course of the evening, "Crazy For You" came up about four times. So that settles it... "But Not For Me" it is. I got a lot of support from my friends when I told them I was thinking of auditioning again, so hopefully this will work out. I mean, I'm not expecting to walk in there and be cast as Millie in Thoroughly Modern Millie, but hey... it wouldn't hurt!

World's Worst Break Up

No, not Gene and I... we're just fine. This is something from a long time ago.

Back when I was a freshman in high school, I was dating a junior. I got to go to the prom as a freshman, and I thought I was the coolest thing ever. This guy was very attractive...and very weird. He now has a spike protruding from his chin and other metal appendages. We had this routine. 6h Period, I had Health class...and I sat in the very back of the room, which was adjacent from the boys bathroom. He was in I think History, and he would get the hall pass, slip a note in my locker, and then wave to me on his way to the restroom.

On that fateful day... he didn't use the hallpass. In the three months (which is like years in high school time) we dated, that was the only day that he didn't wave to me from the hall. I knew something was horribly wrong. And there wasn't a note in my locker. Instead, this one girl that I did drama with whom I didn't really get along that well with handed me a sealed envelope with my name on it, and told her that my ex (not The Ex) had given it to her in the hallway. He was no where to be found. He left school after 6th period, because he had 7th and 8th period study halls and juniors and seniors are allowed to leave school if that happens.

The letter inside was, looking back, the funniest break up letter I've ever received. I was so distraught over the whole thing that I burnt the letter when I got home. I really wish I still had it for blackmail purposes. He gave me every single excuse for breakup that I could think of:

It's not you it's me.

You deserve so much better.

I just don't know how to love.

I think you're smothering me and I need to feel free this summer.

You need someone who knows how to love you.

And my personal favorite: MY PARENTS ARE GETTING A DIVORCE AND I JUST CAN'T BE IN A RELATIONSHIP RIGHT NOW. And then he added, "please don't say anything to my sister... she doesn't know."

Seriously? Your parents are getting a divorce and that's why we can't date? It's a bit backwards and sounds like he needs some serious therapy. At the time, I didn't really understand the divorce thing because my parents were "happily" married (HA! they're divorced now). But it seemed very backwards to want to stop having a relationship because of that.

I don't mean for it to sound like I'm mocking divorce. I'm not. I'm mocking the fact that this guy made up his parents divorce to feel better about dumping me. That's right...his parents are still married. And I didn't say anything to his sister. I was loyal. I wonder what she would think though. I did talk to her that night, and despite the fact that we weren't really friends, she made me feel better about everything.

I found out later (ironically from The Ex) that he broke up with me because he was going to Norway for the summer (where his father is from) and he intended to fool around with girls over there. The Ex actually convinced my Norweigan Prince to break up with me... because this gem of a human being wasn't going to break up with me. He said since it was a different country, it didn't count. What a loser.

What is the worst excuse you've ever received for a breakup? I have yet to find one that I think is funnier than "My parents are getting a divorce."

When you're the best of friends...

My ultra geeky Maryland Sheep and Wool festival was a lot of fun. I was actually a little nervous that it was going to be a nightmare. I was not looking forward to waking up at 5am to drive for two hours, but it ended up being very nice! And I procured some nice yarn... felt some YAK YARN (which by the way is the softest yarn I've ever felt IN MY ENTIRE LIFE... and also ultra expensive), and I talked myself out of learning how to spin my own yarn. Because I think this hobby is slowly growing into an obsession.

But enough about yarn and knitting.

I had one of the most awkward experiences ever the other day. And while it isn't Totally Awkward Tuesday by Tova Darling, I'm sharing it anyway.

I went to see my little sister's musical... and one of the people I used to be very close to was there. She and I basically haven't really spoken in about 8 years. We've recently come back into contact, but she still doesn't get that she significantly hurt me in high school. More on that later. We all go to Applebee's after the show (it's tradition... they know we're coming) and this girl, her fiance, her brother, and our mutual friend Mandy are all there. So Mandy says to me "Oh my gosh, I have to tell you! You'll really appreciate this." She goes on to tell me about how her friend (with whom she had a similar falling out) that she hasn't said a single word to in 8 years called her up, told her about how much their friendship met, yadda yadda yadda, will you sing at my wedding?

I almost fell out of my chair. Mainly the girl that I hadn't been speaking to asked me to sing at her wedding. And i said yes because I don't know how to say no.. and because we were really close... and I do really miss her. Mandy adds that it's funny in her situation because she and her friend hadn't worked things out the way that my friend and I had. Except that we really haven't. Because she's never apologized for being a horrible friend. It took all of my will power not to start laughing at the irony of it all.

Now my "friend" is pulling the poor little me act and saying "did you really hate me that much?" And no, I didn't... I was just really really hurt. Because here I am, trying so hard to stay friends with this person who would rather spend time with other people. I called her when my high school boyfriend and I finally broke up, and she hung up on me. I think I'm quite justified in not speaking to her for almost four years. I'm such a coward though, because I can't call her up and say "This is why I was so mad at you for so long." When I tried explaining it 8 years ago, she laughed at me. And now it all seems so trivial and stupid, that I've just decided to not let it bother me anymore.

It doesn't help that both Gene and my two best friends despise this girl... think I shouldn't sing at her wedding... and think that I should just stop speaking to her again. But I still miss her...

I feel so OLD.

Facebook, or stalkerbook as it should be better called, is a great way to keep in touch, stay friends, right? No. It isn't. It's a great way to be all braggy and "Oh I'm doing GREAT... isn't my job GREAT... aren't my pictures WONDERFUL" It's a great way to have that phony 10 year reunion conversation with those people you secretly wanted to trip in the hallways of high school ALL THE TIME.

Recently, I've started to find exes of mine on facebook. We all know how well things went with The Ex. My first ex, who is actually a great guy and we broke up because of bad timing. I was 14, he was 15, neither of us drove, and we lived 40 minutes away from one another which is an ETERNITY when you're a freshman in high school. He was the cousin of one of my neighbors, and he was really tall, and very attractive. And now he's on facebook, and it scares me.

It scares me because he has been married for as long as I've been dating Gene, and he has three children. He's 26. He is 26 years old and he has three children. My mother was 28 when she had me, and I'm her firstborn. I'm going to be 25 in a few months and children are no one in my very near future. I keep saying that I'm surrounded by babies and weddings, but this one freaks me out like no other... because in some weird universe, that could have been me. In all honesty, there's no reason why this guy and I broke up other than we never saw each other. And he made me pay for our first (and only) date. We dated for a total of 9 months. He's the only person I dated more than once (three times) and each time for 3 months.

When did I get so OLD that my exes are engaged and getting married??

Welcome to my home. You must be Crazy.

I think everyone has that one person in their life that makes their skin boil. For me it's The Ex... and I've never met Gene's, until last night. He has this ex-girlfriend, and we're just going to call her Crazy. I've heard a lot about Crazy, but I've never actually met her. She grew up in the neighborhood we live in now, and her parents still live here. Gene was completely infatuated with her from when he was 14 until he was about 25? They dated for a while, but this girl could get Gene to do anything.

Crazy is very manipulative, and very needy. She needs to be reassured all the time. And she gets that reassurance by cheating on her significant other constantly. Which is fine, you know, some people have very low self esteem and need that kind of physical contact. I'm not judging her there. I have my fair share of compulsive cheaters who are my friends.

I'm judging the belligerant drunkeness that had her shove her face against our door at 1am yesterday and say "I see you bitches on the couch! HELLO!! Aw, C'mon!!!" and then she went away. Crazy didn't even give us the chance to get off the couch and open the door. Why I was awake at 1am I'm not quite sure, especially since it's 7am now and I'm about to go to work. But that's not the point. The point is Crazy knows where we live... and she pressed her face against my door. And then proceeded to scream my name (not Gene's name... my name...) all the way down the neighborhood until, we assume, she got to her mother's house.

Gene was half tempted to march down to her mothers and rip her a new one, but that would be feeding into it. Gene's basically cut Crazy off since he met me. He hasn't spoken to her in 5 years, and we did not attend her wedding last year. He's erased all numbers for her, and he's changed his email address. She hasn't really gone out of her way to get in touch with him either though...only when she needs something from him does she talk to him or try to talk to him. I'm just a little disturbed, though, that this insane belligerant drunk A. knows where I live, B. knows my name, and C. had the nerve to violate my space! On what planet is this acceptable behavior?

The Ex.

There's this guy I dated all throughout high school, and granted, it's been about eight years since we've broken up, but there are things that he did to me that still have me completely messed up today. Between this guy and my father, I don't know which one gave me more trust issues. I'm not going to use this exes name. Instead, we're going to call just call him The Ex, because out of all my exes, he's the only one I'll ever bitch about. One I'm still very good friends with (even though he cheated on me), one is a youth minister and married with babies (even though when we dated he was goth. that's just amusing), one is too self-obsessed to be angry, and one I'm kind of friends with, but he's just plain weird.

Basic backstory with The Ex... we dated for almost two years when I was a junior and senior in high school. He was a senior when I was a freshman, but he moved across the country to go to school. We dated while he was across the country, and our relationship was amazing then. He came home in the summer and for Christmas. Our first Christmas together, his Christmas present to me was that he was moving back home after graduating with his associates degree. I wasn't excited enough about it, and he got mad at me. I guess I just assumed that he would be moving home. He would always get upset with me whenever I didn't exclaim with joy every time he called or came home. I guess he expected me to cry. Whatever.

One summer, there was this incident. He had just come home, but I had made plans that day already to spend the night at a friends. We started drinking (I was 17... bad plan, I know) and the girls decided to go swimming, except I had no bathing suit. So we decided to go skinny dipping and not tell the boys. The boys followed us. I told The Ex, and he got all kinds of upset, and rightly so. But didn't break up with me. Instead, we stayed together for a whole year and he held it against me every chance he got. He made me feel so low and so bad about myself... he had me completely trained. I even slept with the jackass so that he'd trust me again. Huge mistake. For eight years, I've wanted to have it out with this guy. At least twice a month, he'd try to break up with me, and I'd beg him not to. Until the last time. He said something cryptic like "I think you know what I want, and I think you want the same thing" and I finally said, "Fine. Never talk to me again." and hung up. Later on that summer, he showed up at my first college party (we called it Kidnapping, it was a tradition in the theatre program I was in) and made me feel awful. I left that party after 10 minutes. I never ahd my chance to really tell him how I felt, and since then I've never been able to really trust people because I always feel like they're trying to control me.

Recently, he showed up on one of my various networking sites... and he started passive aggressively posting cryptic things about me on it. The guy still acts like he's 15. He's 28. I tried being nice earlier and extending an olive branch... because it bothers me that someone hates me as much as he does, despite the fact that I have every right to want to punch him in the face. He ignored my olive branch. So the second time, after the passive agressiveness, I sent him another message that was like "Look, asshole, if you want to be all passive aggressive about me, then fine, but grow the hell up and say it to my face you coward." And other nasty things about how he's controlling and how he's totally screwed me up in the head.

This was his response: Hello. What r u talkin about? No one said anything about fighting.I was told people were talking about me and there is no reason for it. If some one has something to say about me then say it to me. Seems as tho you are trying to start a fight, however i am not. So there will be no fight. Sorry. I don't appreciate people talking about me. Let's be grown up. Aside from all that crap what's new with u?

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT???? AND THEN! After a very confused "what the hell?" response from me, I get this: There isn't hatred towards you. It's in our past so let's just leave it there. Yea there are a few things unresolved but it was a long time ago so I put that stuff behind me and move on from anything that bothers me in life. Radio huh? As in a radio station on the radio? That's sweet. My brother did that for a couple years. Speaking of acting I ran into Maria not too long ago, she's traveling all over the place acting. What fruit can't u eat? I'm allergic to shrimp but I still eat it... yea i break out in rashes n itch alot but that's why I bring Bendryl to Red Lobster.....last week it did not work and I paid the price. It was good tho.

One of two things is happening here. Either 1. He has matured and is a nice human being. I do not trust this one bit. I know him better than to think that he is a nice human being and has matured. Which leaves 2. This is his passive aggresive plot to have him come out of this smelling like a rose and make me feel awful about myself yet again. I responded to his last reponse with a very nice message. This was a few weeks ago. I'm still waiting for a response. This supports my #2 theory. He hasn't gotten over it, he just doesn't want to take any responsibility, and he wants to come out looking like the better person. I hate people like that.

Firsts

I was tagged by Maureen from Penny, the Baby Girl... so here goes:

1. Who was your FIRST prom date? Stein Erik. He was Norweigan... and he was the brother of a girl in my class in high school... I was a freshman. We started dating on April Fools Day (which should have given me some clue...) and he got bored three months later. He really is a good guy though... I don't hold anything against him. I guess he was my "bad boy" that I dated... if you consider Gregorian chant listening, sword wielding nerds "bad boys" He does have a bunch of tattoos and piercings now. Still really attractive.

2. Do you still talk to your FIRST love? No. Not even a little. I tried to extend the olive branch, and was ignored. So if the jerk wants to continue to think that I'm a Cheater McCheaterson, then he can be my guest. He did run into my mother at Red Lobster over the summer... so I know she gave him the "Oh, she's doing GREAT" speech, which makes me feel better, however shallow that may be.

3. What was your FIRST alcoholic drink? a wine cooler.. I was 13. (ETA: Actually. I liked wine when I was a toddler, and one holiday the family left me in a room of half drunk wine glasses. They came back, and they were empty. So...)

4. What was your FIRST job? Um. Technically I was a mommy's little helper when I was 12 for my neighbors, the Snootys. They had a little girl who was 3 and twins. My job was to play with the 3 year old, and I got paid like $5. I also had to clean this woman's house. Because she was too lazy.

5. What was your FIRST car? 1989 white Cavalier station wagon. Oh yeah. That car was so loud...

6. Who was the FIRST person to text you today? Jenny Z. She probably texted me yesterday, but I got it this morning. She sent me this text that was "you hear a song on the radio, and think of me...what song is it?" And clearly... the answer is Popsicle by New Kids on the Block. The first time around. Her and I are big NKOTB nerds. I have been since I was 6.

7. Who is the FIRST person you thought of this morning? Gene, because he stole my lunch!!!

8. Who was your FIRST grade teacher? Mrs. Eisley. I liked her because I thought she looked like Snow White.

9. Where did you go on your FIRST ride on an airplane? Pittsburgh. It was a 47 minute flight when I was a senior in high school to the Forensics Speech & Debate Nationals. I think I placed like 60 or something out of a few hundred.

10. Who was your FIRST best friend and are you still friends with them? Cara was my first best friend, but I don't remember her because I moved from Jersey when I was only just 5. My next best friend was Rachael... and I miss her every single day. She moved to Florida when we were 13... but we still kept in touch. We've been sucking at that lately, but every time we see each other it's like she never left.

11. What was your FIRST sport played? Cheerleading. Yes it counts. And it was the only sport I played. And I did competitive cheerleading, too.

12. Where was your FIRST sleep over? My cousin Linsey's house.

13. Who was the FIRST person you talked to today? Gene.

14. Whose wedding were you in the FIRST time? My Aunt Laura and Uncle Jim. I started out as a flower girl, but they cancelled their wedding... and by the time they actually got married, I was a junior bridesmaid. Still the same dress, though... so it became a tea-length dress instead of a floor length dress.

15. What was the FIRST thing you did this morning? hit the snooze button... a lot...

16. What was the FIRST concert you ever went to? TECHNICALLY my first concert was Sarah Brightman. Not very glamorous, I know. So what do I tell people was my first concert? Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. I saw them a few months later with my parents. They were pretty awesome, however high they were (CSNY, not my parents)

17. FIRST tattoo or piercing? My ears when I was 6. No tattoos yet.

18. FIRST foreign country you went to? You mean the ONLY foreign country I've been to? Canada. Ireland is coming...hopefully... stupid Colleen moving to Ireland.

19. What was your FIRST run in with the law? Besides hiding in closets in college because I was illegally drinking? I don't think anything. Except that time that my mom got pulled over for speeding on the way to take me for my permit test. Whoops. And there was that one time when a few girls (who hated me) in my neighborhood broke into a house that was just built and wrote my name on the wall to try to get me into trouble. Luckily I don't have white blonde hair, and someone say them breaking into the house. I was never questioned. Oh, and then there was the time when we had to have police detail protect me on the school yard when I was in 8th grade because one of the girls I went to gradeschool with and all of her friends surrounded me during recess, and threatened my life. Gotta love Catholic school.

20. When was your FIRST detention? It doesn't count! The entire class got detention when I was in 7th grade because they were being loud. I wasn't one of those kids because I was too scared of my teachers.

21. What was the FIRST state you lived in? Pennsylvania.

22. Who was the FIRST person to break your heart? Jeff. He was an emotionally abusive jerkoff.

23. Who was your FIRST roommate? Her name was Jeannine. She was a nice enough girl, but we had almost nothing in common. I moved in with Colleen three months later.

24. Where did you go on your FIRST limo ride? I don't think I've ever been in a limo, actually. I was supposed to get one for prom my senior year, but my wonderful "friends" planned it without me in mind, despite the fact that it was my idea. Hence why I'm a bit bitter about high school...

So now! I tag... becklette, Di, Joanie, and Tess.

Big Texas

I don't know if you're familiar with the Big Texas, but it might be the greatest thing to ever be in vending machines ever. We used to have them (and maybe they still do, I don't know) in the vending machine at my high school... and I'm pretty sure I had one every day. They are lovely cinnamon buns with icing drizzled on top.. and they might be laced with crack/cocaine because I can't get enough of them. When I got to work this morning, I discovered that my oatmeal stash in my desk was empty. So then I was forced to eat poptarts for breakfast from the vending machine. but lo, and behold...instead of poptarts there, staring back at me, was a BIG TEXAS. It's like high school on a plate. If high school was cinnamon-y and delicious.

It's funny how little things take you back. Who knew that a Big Texas would get me feeling all warm and fuzzy about a time in my life that I'd like to get away from. For grade school... it would be Orbitz. Remember those drinks? They had those little balls floating in them? I'd never drink one now because it would gross me out, but I LOVED those things when I was in 7th and 8th grade. Orbitz and Bonne Bell chapstick. I had a ton of those... but I had this one friend who used to convince me to give her everything I bought. She ended up with clothes I bought, lipgloss I bought, and hairbrushes. Man, was I a dumb kid. That girl probably owes me close to $200 worth of stuff in the 6 years that we were friends. Now she doesn't talk to me because I am living with Gene and we're not married, so I'm a terrible terrible sinner who cannot be "saved."
