When I was little, I wanted to be the voice of a Disney Princess (despite telling my next door neighbor that I wanted to be a pole dancer, but that was the year before). That hasn't changed all that much... I would still love to make a living doing voice work, but it's a very hard business. One that's very hard to break into.
The other profession that I really love is makeup. That's one of the reasons that I started working at ULTA. I love wearing makeup... I love playing with makeup... I love doing other people's makeup. And I get to do that at ULTA. My favorite things to do is pick out prom makeup and pick out wedding makeup. It's like I'm kind of part of the event because I'm helping that person feel special (sure it's in an entirely superficial way, but whatevs. It makes me happy, ok?)
Yesterday... I got to pick out this girl's wedding makeup. The trick about wedding makeup is that you want the bride to look like herself, but the very best version of herself. The hardest part is eye makeup, because you want to define and make the eye pop without making it too dark, and trust me that's difficult. But I managed to find this perfect balance for this girl, and she looked awesome.
And then she asked me if I would come and do it for her on Saturday. The day of her wedding.
SQUEE!
I've never done anyone's makeup for their ACTUAL wedding. I've done bridesmaids who come into ULTA and get makeovers (which technically we're not allowed to do... because it is a service, and they should go to our salon and get an esthetician to do it for a charge, but at the time we didn't have an esthetician on staff...) but never the bride. I'm a bit super nervous. A bit super excited. And totally honored, because this girl liked my style so much that she's willing to charge me to do it for this huge important day.
When I was halfway through school... I was THIS CLOSE to going to beauty school and getting my cosmetology license. But I had already put myself through almost 3 years of private college, and I didn't want to waste that time. I had this secondary plan where when I had loans paid off (which will be when I'm 50 at this rate...) I would get my cosmetology license. And I actually have looked into it. But I need to be at a better place financially. I'm really good at makeup. And I'm pretty good at hair. I think it's in the blood. My mom was a hair stylist for a long time, and I think that's why I always had an interest for it.
I have so many relationships with makeup artists because of ULTA, and honestly I don't know how many of them are license cosmetologists or estheticians. But I would love to join that caliber of talent.

Step one: New Voice Teacher
In the world of musical theatre, it's imperative to keep ones voice in shape, which I have not. I haven't sung out loud in front of people in over three years. And it definitely shows. So I called up a local vocal coach who was recommended by a friend who works in the industry, and had my first lesson about an hour ago. It went all right... not the best lesson I've had... but that's understandable with the shape that my voice is in.
I basically need to go to a vocal boot camp between now and June 8th (the date of my audition) if I think that I'm going to be in any shape to do this right and get cast. We picked out possibly two songs, not the two songs I originally planned on singing. But Not For Me by George Gershwin from various shows he's done, and from The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd, Nothing Can Stop Me Now! The Gershwin song I'm very familiar with, I've worked on it before, so it's comfortable. The other song I've never heard before in my LIFE but it is a great song.
The strangest thing about this lesson? I heard the six words that I dread hearing: I really think you're a soprano. I've categorized myself as a BELTER forever. My first two voice teachers were convinced that I was a soprano... and I fought it with everything I have. The teacher that I had the longest agreed with me that I was an alto, a belter, possibly a mezzo. Even the musical director from college (weasel that he was) was convinced that I was a soprano. He even told my best friend, who is a coloratura soprano (so ridiculously high it could break glass) that SHE is an alto and I am a soprano. We laughed at him for years over that comment.
But now I'm questioning. What if I am really a soprano, and I've been fighting it for so long, and now I've screwed my voice? I think that if I work hard over the next two weeks (and see if I can find instrumentals of these songs somewhere) I can improve my voice enough so that it's back in good shape again. But we'll see. I'm still terrified of this audition. Why do I do these things to myself?

Musical Update
The reason that they can't say the name of the show is apparently because another very well respected theatre in the area is also doing it, and their show closes July 19th. So they can officially announce it July 20th. But it isn't a big secret. The problem? It is not a show for me. There is only one female character, and I am not tall, blonde, nor do I have giganto boobs. Nor am I sexy on-stage. (and that is not to sound down on myself. There's a reason I'll never be cast as the sex pot, and actually cast as her super smart and nerdy little sister)
BUT!!! There's another theatre around here (that is paid... because it's a dinner theatre) that is doing THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE. THAT is a me show. I can sing the crap out of that show. So. I'm working on something for that audition which is on June 8th. Definitely more to come on that. Also, I auditioned for this theatre in the past when they were doing Chicago, and I was called back for Roxie. So I KNOW that I can get a callback. I wasn't in the show at all... but the problem with me in Chicago is that I can play Roxie, or I can play Roxie. This face ain't a Merry Murderess. The thing with this theatre is that their casting call is AEA and Non-Equity will be seen as time permits. And they generally cast AEA for leads. So chances are that I'll just be in the chorus. But ya never know. I'm still gonna sing and dance my ass off.
At the moment, I'm thinking about probably using "I Got Rhythm" for an audition piece or "Astonishing" from Little Women. The first because it's similar in style to songs from the show, and the latter because it was originally performed by Sutton Foster who played Millie in the Original Revival Cast of the show a few years ago. Both are songs I've worked on in the past, so I'm comfortable with either. I still feel like I'm having a panic attack about it, though.

What if I've forgotten how to sing and act at the same time?
I might be crazy. I didn't want to do any theatre this summer at all, because it took my life last summer. And I like my life. But there's this community theatre down here (yes, community theatre, but they do some pretty good stuff) that I have an "in" at... and my "in" is directing. And the auditions are May 30th. But they won't tell me what show.
So I may or may not have (that means I did) emailed his wife and said I wasn't asking her what show her husband was directing, but if I decided to audition... do I want to prepare something Kander and Ebb/Stephen Sondheim-y? Loud, low, and belty? Or do I want to prepare something Rodgers and Hammerstein/puppies and rainbows-y? Pretty sounding ballady about how awesome love is until your husband beats you up? (that's from Carousel, in case you were wondering).
AND! Later in the year... this place is doing RENT. I love RENT. I can sing the crap out of RENT. Hi, community theatre in Delaware, meet your new Maureen. Please?
I know I'm probably going to regret this. I think. Oh, God, someone help me.

Happiest Girl Alive.
The station I work participates in this huge city event every year.. a Flower Market. It's one of the big city events, and funds go to charities, and it's a huge deal. We always provide entertainment. Last year, we had Flyleaf come out and perform. They were really awesome...and my little sister is a HUGE Flyleaf fan, so she came out... and we took pictures with the band and got autographs and stuff. It was a lot of fun.
This year, we were waiting and waiting on who our BIG name was going to be. Now, we have Carolina Liar playing on Saturday night, which is cool.. but it's no Flyleaf. And certainly no Harry Kalas, who we had three years ago. The year before Flyleaf, we had Eliot Yamin from American Idol.
This year... I think it's my favorite year since I started working with this company. This year... we have Shane Victorino, who's the center fielder for the Phillies. I'm a HUGE Phils phan... so I was freaking out a little when we got Shane to come out. It's in two weeks... I've already volunteered my time during when Shane will be there.. and I'm going to have my NLDS program (the game I was at, Shane Victorino hit a GRAND SLAM against C.C. Sabathia, who was supposed to be their Ace. We made him look STUPID), my NLCS program (procured from LA from the game where we clinched the National League title), and my World Series program (procured from a lovely coworker who was at the game). I'm so flipping excited.

100th Post!
Nothing too exciting. I couldn't really come up with anything extravagant. Oh well. I do have a few exciting things, though!
A of all, I won the basketball pool at work... and won myself $200! All for saying "Hmm... eeny, meeny, miny. THAT ONE!" I did actually put SOME thought into it. I did look up SOME stats and did pay SOME attention to college basketball. Not much. I did go a lot on seeding. I didn't take "the chalk" the whole way through (I didn't know what that meant until like yesterday. I didn't pick all 1 seeds). And all those people who laughed at me because I took Villanova in the final four can suck it.
B of all, I've decided to start doing yoga on a regular basis. I am attempting to be healthier. At my work, we have this "life coach" who comes in a few times a month and gives us tips to lead healthy lives and all that stuff. Last month, she checked our back health. We had to do all these stretches and things to see if we were at an increased risk of back injury. We discovered that I have bad hips (which I knew... I almost had to have hip surgery when I was 15 because of my non-working soas muscle), and we discovered that I'm pear shaped, and we discovered that I'm in the 10th percentile of hamstring flexibility for my age group. Which means that 90% more people are more flexible than I. And I also have ZERO lumbar support. At ULTA on Sunday, my back was hurting so badly I could barely stand up. So I think it's time for yoga. When I was seeing a chiropractor, she told me that all of my back pain was because I had weak back muscles, not from my spine. She suggested a year ago that I start doing yoga.
I went to three stores before I found exercise dvds, let alone yoga ones. Jeezu. Who knew that Best Buy didn't believe in exercise? They USED to have a section. Not any longer! I was forced (against my better judgement) to go to Barnes and Noble. I hate that store. Even though they carry "Sock Innovation" by Cookie A and Borders doesn't.
And finally, C of all, I'm getting laser hair removal. I don't know how much I'll talk about it here... but I'll at least let y'all know. I'm meeting with the people today for my "consultation" and we're going to get started on my underarms. I'm excited and a bit scared at the same time. I know it is going to hurt a bit. I had a friend who had it done on her legs 5 years ago, loves it, and she said that it does hurt. I also have a friend at ULTA who used to work for a laser hair removal company (not the same one I'm going to) and she told me that I'm going to love it, that it'll work great on me since I have such dark hair, and she told me all the places I should have treated. If I never have to shave again.... I'm going to be so excited. I hate the act of shaving, and waxing hurts more than it should.
I had a bikini wax ONCE. I was going to get a brazillian wax. Then they started, and I chickened out. I liked the result of the wax. But NEVER AGAIN will I get a bikini wax. I wanted to cry. And before going to the waxing hell, I went to the bar and took ibuprofen. So I should have been just fine. At least afterwards, I did a facial. That was my reward for sitting through such horrid and unneccesary pain. I think if I can live through a bikini wax... than I can live through laser hair removal. I hope.

Breathing Fire
I love cooking... I love experimenting with food and making up sauces and going off recipe. I'm addicted to The Food Network, and the greatest cooking show ever, America's Test Kitchen which is on PBS. Best. Show. Ever. They take these recipes and try them hundreds of different ways until they find the best one. And it usually is nothing like the "original" or "traditional" recipe. Most of the recipes that I get are through America's Test Kitchen. They're mostly easy, sometimes take a little extra work, but the result is always AMAZING.
This time, Gene and I were making NY strip steaks that he got from the butcher. Ah-mazing. Super buttery and tender. In accordance with the test kitchen, I baked my steak for 30 minutes in a low oven and then put it in a SUPER HOT pan with vegetable oil to sear it and get it nice and brown. All sides. Then let it rest while I make the pan sauce.
The pan sauce is where the problems started. First, it's a tequila lime chile sauce. Except my grocery store doesn't carry poblano chiles, so I decided to substitute a jalapeno. I've never worked with jalapenos, but I know that most of the heat is in the seeds and a ribs, so I get those little suckers out of there. Chop up my little pepper, cook it in steak fat and cumin, and put it aside. Then I stick some white tequila... and i have to set it on fire. Except I don't have a kitchen lighter (the ones that look like guns with a really long barrel to light grills and things with?) or long matches. In fact, I can't find any matches anywhere. But I do have a gas stove and birthday candles (I know... dumbest thing ever... and I'm buying a kitchen lighter for the next time, beacuse this sauce was FREAKING GOOD). I was not expecting the flame that came... but that's all right. I didn't burn anything down. Everything was fine. Thank god. After the tequila, some chicken stock, and some fresh lime juice... I put the peppers and the cumin (there was also supposed to be a shallot, but neither Gene nor I like onions, so I scratched that), and some fresh herbs in the pan and cooked that up a bit more.
You thought it was the tequila on fire that is making me breathe fire, didn't you? It wasn't. It's the oil from the jalapeno. That shit stays on your freaking hands FOREVER and no amount of soap and water can get it out. So every time I blow my nose? The oils manage to get on my nose and it feels like the inside of my nose is on freaking fire. When I accidentally touch my eye? BURNING. I didn't wash my face or put on moisturizer today because I was terrified of what would happen. Last night, the oils were bothering the inside of my nose so much that my sinuses had swollen as if I had a cold. I made the mistake of trying to flush out the oils with water and my neti pot. BURNING. So... about 18 hours later... I'm still having nasal burning... and eye burning... and underneath my fingernails burn. I also like to bite my thumb if I'm thinking. Then my tongue burns. I hate jalapenos.

I feel so OLD.
Facebook, or stalkerbook as it should be better called, is a great way to keep in touch, stay friends, right? No. It isn't. It's a great way to be all braggy and "Oh I'm doing GREAT... isn't my job GREAT... aren't my pictures WONDERFUL" It's a great way to have that phony 10 year reunion conversation with those people you secretly wanted to trip in the hallways of high school ALL THE TIME.
Recently, I've started to find exes of mine on facebook. We all know how well things went with The Ex. My first ex, who is actually a great guy and we broke up because of bad timing. I was 14, he was 15, neither of us drove, and we lived 40 minutes away from one another which is an ETERNITY when you're a freshman in high school. He was the cousin of one of my neighbors, and he was really tall, and very attractive. And now he's on facebook, and it scares me.
It scares me because he has been married for as long as I've been dating Gene, and he has three children. He's 26. He is 26 years old and he has three children. My mother was 28 when she had me, and I'm her firstborn. I'm going to be 25 in a few months and children are no one in my very near future. I keep saying that I'm surrounded by babies and weddings, but this one freaks me out like no other... because in some weird universe, that could have been me. In all honesty, there's no reason why this guy and I broke up other than we never saw each other. And he made me pay for our first (and only) date. We dated for a total of 9 months. He's the only person I dated more than once (three times) and each time for 3 months.
When did I get so OLD that my exes are engaged and getting married??

The Magical Radio Faerie
Yes, I spell "fairy" like "faerie."
One of my responsibilities at the station is to write, produce, and put in commercials. Oftentimes, they will come fully produced from an outside production company. The email correspondance that I had between myself and one of our clients was hilarious.
Client (on Wednesday): We should have the spot to you by Thursday. We had some production issues, but it should be fine tomorrow.
Client (on Thursday): Sorry, we're still waiting for the spot to be reproduced again. Is it all right if it is slightly over :60?
Me: No. It really needs to be right at :60 because our station is set up for :30 and :60 only. If we get a spot that is :65, it will get cut off.
Client (on Friday at 4:35): Here's the spot! Sorry for the delay!
I'm relieved, because it's late on a Friday, and I already have to stay later than usual because I'm having someone come in to record a commericial at 5:00. I upload the commercial to our program, I'm about to label it, when I notice something that I am convinced is wrong. There's no way that it says that.
There's no way that this commercial that I told this woman cannot be over :60 under any circumstances is 2:06.
It is. It's TWO MINUTES AND SIX SECONDS LONG. And I listen to it... and it's horribly produced!! I call the account executive and I'm panicking because it needs to run this weekend. And he says "Well, just cut it." JUST CUT IT? It's a FULLY PRODUCED SPOT. I can't JUST CUT IT. But I manage to do it. I'm not sure exactly how, but I manage to cut a 2:06 spot down to :59.
I don't know why these people think that I can perform miracles. They really must believe in the existance of the Production Faerie. The Production Faerie comes down and makes everything they want possible.

The Joys of Homeownership
Gene and I have this Home Warranty...which so far has been WONDERFUL. Shortly after we moved into the house, we were seeing water damage under the tub. Luckily, it wasn't anything serious at all... just a bit of caulk that was loose. But the plumber snaked our drain for us since he was out there already, which normally would have cost $300+ but instead only cost us $55. So when we started having strange water-heater issues, we're thinking "Oh good... if our water heater goes, we can just get a new one for $55."
The same company that snaked our drain came out to look at the water heater. I took a half work-from-home day and worked on some PSA stuff at home so I wouldn't lose the day. And I got to listen to my friend who's on a soap opera while doing my job, so that's always fun. The plumber, whose name I think was Chad, came up from my basement with a very pained look on his face. And he tells me that I need a new water heater, but it's because of a calcification, which is not covered under the warranty. So I need to shell out $1000 for a new water heater (that includes installation) Luckily... I have that much saved, so I don't have to take this out of pocket. Unfortunately...that's all I have in my savings, so...
The only good part of yesterday, and really what made everything all right, was that I could lick the World Series Trophy. The station I work for was sponsoring an appearance of the World Series Trophy, so Gene and I headed over the the mall to see the trophy. We ended up going into the restaurant that the station was having dinner at beforehand, and we didn't have to wait in line to get our picture taken at all! We showed up just in time... in 2 minutes they were taking the trophy to the center court of the mall where there was a line almost the length of the mall. There were easily 1000 people in line. Sometimes, working in radio has its perks.
Here's the trophy in all it's glory:

Christmas Party Meltdown...
I'm finally getting to go to the company Christmas party. I've been invited for the past 4 years, but this is is the first year I've been able to go.
Year 1, 2004: Junior year in college... Gene was working for the station and it was his second Christmas party. My boss now was getting married the next day, so he was picking me up from school in Allentown PA Friday night, we were driving down to go to the Christmas Party and then going to the wedding the following day. I was on my way to the mall that I worked at to pick up my paycheck and on my way home, my antilock breaks locked (hmm...?) and I totalled my car. We didn't make it to the Chrsitmas party that year.
Year 2, 2005: Senior year in college... the previous year I skipped "Scholarship Audition Day" at my college theatre. We orchestrate the audition process for incoming freshmen at my school and take them on tours, make them feel comfortable, time them, etc. We also do two performances from a student directing class. The year before I asked for my play to be taken out of consideration since I knew I wouldn't be able to go at all. But I wasn't missing my last year, so I told Gene I couldn't go to the party.
Year 3, 2006: My first year at the station. I had theatre tickets to see 42nd Street at the Walnut Street Theatre. My dad has season tickets, and I had both seats for the Christmas show that year. I was actually not too impressed by 42nd Street. I've found that I don't really like that show as a whole... it just stops.
Year 4, 2007: My second year at the station. Again, I had theatre tickets. I don't remember what show it was. I'm not even sure if it was Walnut or not. It could have been DTC.
Year 5, 2008: My third year at the station... and finally I'm able to go. Except things aren't going so well. It's 4:49 at the moment... and I still need to drive home, put my face on, fix my hair, and put on my cute pretty dress. And I have AEs putting contracts in to start this weekends. For spots that I still need to produce. Which means I also have to change all of the promos. Do these people realize how long it takes me to make my hair look pretty!? When it's been rainy all day!? It takes a while! I have big frizzy hair in the rain! I'm a little disgruntled. I only wish it was a cash bar tonight.

Snow comes up, Charlie Brown. It comes up!
It's snowing. Before Thanksgiving. This I am so not okay with. So far... my day has been a big bowl of poo. I woke up late...and I woke up to about an inch of snow and counting. I go out to my car about 10 minutes earlier than normal, turn on my car to warm it up, and then start dusting the snow off of my car with my broom. After about 10 or so minutes (not sure exactly how long, my cell phone aka my clock is inside the car. with my purse.) I finish sweeping snow off of my car, and I'm all ready to drive off.
Except my car is locked.
Apparently my car (which is new to me as of the summer) automatically locks when you turn it on. Something I was apparently unaware of until this very moment. I actually thought it automatically locked when you put it in gear. Nope. When you turn it on. I start walking to the future mother-in-law's house, which is really not all that far away. She has a spare key to my house, but not to the deadbolt. So I take her car and drive to the school Gene teaches at, get his house keys, drop the van back off at the future mother-in-law's and go on my merry way. THANK GOD the car was still there and nothing was taken. Like my purse. And my cell phone. And my GPS.
As I'm driving to work listening to my morning show (Preston & Steve...they're hilarious), I didn't want to take 95 to work. But because I had to take Gene's keys back to him, taking any other way besides 95 would have been out of the way. So of course, as soon as I get close to 95...there's an accident with injuries. So I get stuck there. Then as soon as I get onto 95, it's jammed. I just can't win! I was almost an hour late for work. Luckily, I haven't had any time to leave for lunch all this week except for yesterday (I've eaten, don't worry, I just haven't left nor stopped working) so I have some time built up that I can still leave at a reasonable hour today.
I really hope today gets better. This morning was just riduculous. At least my car was warm...because my feet were slightly FREEZING from having to be outside in the snow for a while. Maybe I should have worn my boots instead of sneakers that get wet easily...

Of A Revolution
The concert was GREAT. Although, remind me to not go to concerts at U of D in the future. I forgot how much I don't like drunk underage college kids. And saying that makes me feel so old... I mean, I'm only out of college going on 3 years... but I just really don't like those stereotypical people. And University of Delaware people are just terrible with that! U D girls? are a little slutty. And by a little, I mean really. These girls were wearing clothing that barely qualifies as a dress. It just looked like a really really tight super long T-shirt to me. With high heels. And far too much makeup. My favorite drunken idiot parts? When they decided to go crowd surfing... and one girl pretty much did a backflip in the air because people tossed her... when they started passing the chairs around on the floor (where I was sitting...yay work for awesome seats!), and when they started standing on the chairs to see better.
Meeting the band was awesome. They're a really great, chill bunch of guys. They were very relaxed and a bit nervous for the show, which I thought was adorable. I officially have a giant crush on Jerry... who plays EVERY INSTRUMENT EVER. He played the guitar, drums, and saxophone... and man does he make playing the sax really sexy. The rest of the guys were great too, especially Richard (the Asian one who plays lead guitar). He was actually walking around the stadium before the show started...and nobody knew who he was, except for the group of us who met him. So I went up and asked him if he knew where their merch was, because my cousin who went with me wanted to buy a T-shirt. It would have been nice if they had let us buy merch before the show started... because then she could have had the band sign her shirt. Oh well.
I think one of the coolest parts of the show was when they had a three-way dueling drum solo. Three guys playing the drums at the same time. Incredibly hard, and incredibly amazing. If you ever have a chance to see these guys in concert, I highly recommend it. They were really great live. Also, they were trying this new thing where they taped the concert and put it on a USB drive that was actually a bracelet. They also had their new album on it also. I seriously considered getting one, but I thought it would just be spending money for the sake of spending money, so I didn't get it. Although I'm pretty sure my brother would have loved that for Christmas.
Hopefully I'll be able to add pictures later. My camera died before I could take some myself, so I'm relying on other people to email me pictures. I want to see if I can get the picture of me and my cousin with the band, maybe a promo shot of the band, and get like a shadow box for myself and one for my cousin, because we both had our tickets signed by the guys. I think that would be nice to keep it like that... that way it won't get torn or anything.

The Perks
When people from home and college found out that I now work in radio, I got a lot of "Hey, can you get my concert tickets?" Sadly, no. I usually can't even get them for me. Not free anyway. I did get to see Jenny Lewis for free, though..but it was a local show and it was a show that was not in high demand. Coldplay? Ain't happening. Not that I'd want to see them anyway, because I'm not at all a fan.
Yesterday, the programming director asked me what I was doing tomorrow (well, today now) to which I responded Um. Hanging out with my mom? Because I am. Saturday morning I'm getting a massage from my mom's friend Tina, and I'm not driving to Pottstown at 8am on a Saturday. So I'm going to Pottstown tonight instead. The conversation went as follows:
PD: So you don't want to see a concert tomorrow?
Me: Which one?
PD: OAR. You don't want tickets to that for tomorrow?
Me: Okay.
PD: And backstage passes?
Me: Okay!
So I asked my friend Sara (who, right now, is lame) to go with me...but she told me this morning that she couldn't. I thought of asking Deb to go, but since one of OAR's biggest songs is "Crazy Game of Poker" I thought it may be too much for her, so I didn't ask her. Then I had to put the word out to like a bajillion people because everyone I asked couldn't make it to Newark by 6:30. Finally my cousin Gabby got back to me after I changed my facebook status to "the first person to call/email me gets to see OAR and meet the band" so she's coming with me. I have so many people who are OAR fans that couldn't go. I have the cousin who is 9 months pregnant and due in about a week... I have the cousin who lives in Baltimore but has to work at 6am tomorrow... i have the best friend who lives in PA but didn't get back to me fast enough. It's crazytown. So now I am getting the "Ooh do you still have the ticket" emails and text messages. Sorry kids, you snooze... you lose.
And becklette...I know I didn't say anything about it to you, but I figured with all the car-ness that getting to Newark DE by 6:30 without me driving to get you would be near impossible, so I didn't mention it.
ETA: My cousin? The 9-month pregnant one? Had her baby Friday night. So she was a bit busy to go with me. They had a little girl, Juliet Catherine, and she's beautiful. She has two hot parents, so that kid is going to be a knockout.

First Relapse
I start rehearsal for a play tomorrow. I haven't acted in two years and I'm terrified that I might suck and that I won't be funny (the play is funny). What if I forget comedic timing? What if I can't memorize my 20 lines? I'm freaking out just a little. I met one guy in the cast on Wednesday night...he seems nice and normal. One of the cast members, maybe two, has to live in my house during rehearsal because they live in either NYC or D.C. We're rehearsing in the middle...which is good because that's where I live.
The play is funny.. it was written by a friend of Gene's (oh yeah, I decided yesterday that I don't care anymore about the letters... mainly because I usually type the name by accident and have to go back and edit anyway) and it feels a lot like a show I did in college, and therefore feels a lot like Six Degrees of Separation (which was based on the board game Life. This play is not based on the board game Life. It just has similar acting/writing styles). Anyway, my character is the one of the only people with a name (Mary) and one of the only people who is in a realistic play. Basically everyone is aware that they're in a play/playing a game, except one guy...Joe...who is in love with me even though he doesn't know my name. The play feature other characters such as South African American Hassidic Bisexual, Feminist Slut... and other such joys. It's also titled "Untitled Masterpiece." I saw a production of it two years ago... with a bunch of interns at a theatre company... and it was ok. They missed a lot of the jokes. The girl who played my character played her far too straight, so she missed a lot of opportunities.
My biggest fear in acting is that it's going to be indication station. I haven't acted in so long I'm afraid it's going to be god awful. Oh yeah, and to make things even more OH MY GOD, the show is being produced in New York. The play was accepted into the NYC Fringe Festival this summer... so I'm going to be in an actual theatre in New York City. I get to pretend for five whole days that I'm a real actor. I do miss acting... a lot... a lot a lot. I have to find a place to live, though. People are conviently ignoring my "hey, I'm homeless for the month of August... can I live on your couch?" requests.
